First Part of the Interview of Akira Toriyama, author of the manga “Dragon Ball. Q: This is for Toyotarou-sensei, what do you think is the most difficult part to draw something made by Akira Toriyama?

Toyotarou: At the first sight, the simplicity of Toriyama sensei’s drawing, at that time of the serialization, we children had the feeling we could draw like him. But, in reality, when we tried to draw, for some reason, it was overwhelming different. No matter what, it turned out to be a different “Goku”. Toriyama: It might appear like that. Even if a professional animator drew (my characters), I still think they make them a little different (laugh). Because my line are simple, on the contrary they can be difficult. I wonder if there is a line that can not be understood by myself.

Q: In the 30th Anniversary of DRAGON BALL SUPER HISTORY COLLECTION BOOK, various authors has contributed to make illustration for “Dragon Ball”. Among them, one has said that, that lines are simple, but when he tries to copy/imitate them, it is impossible to imitate. Toriyama: yep, it’s impossible also for me to imitate someone’s else picture. Q: But, everybody has enjoyed to draw them! Toriyama: I am grateful about that. If I will meet them, I have to express my gratitute to all of them. If it means that it’s similar, Toyotarou is amazing! Toyotarou: no no, absolutely… the more you draw, the more the difference will be cleare!?!?! Toriyama: that’s not how it is. Maybe it can be closer to me. It’s hard to find it. it can exist people similar to my drawings, and it can be also said there are people that can talk in a similar way to Toyotarou-sensei. End First Part.
